Course - Beginning Sourdough Course August 12, 19, 26 6:00pm-7:30pm
Say hello to sourdough mastery! This 3-part course is the ultimate deep dive for anyone ready to go beyond the basics of sourdough. While our beginner workshop condenses centuries old sourdough fermentation science and jams it all into a quick 2 hours, this course gives us three 1.5-hour sessions to really roll up our sleeves and slow things down — just like a good dough. You will get hands-on experience at every single stage of the process. The best part? You’ll feed your starter, prep your dough, and test your skills at home between sessions, returning each week with fresh experience and a foundation to build on. Bring your triumphs and sticky questions back to the table each week and build up those skills. Think of it as a weekly date night with your new favorite hobby (and me - Taleen!). Let’s get baking!
Session 1: Starter Basics
A brief history and science of sourdough
Starter maintenance and uses
(Hands on) Feed and take home an active starter
Instructions will be provided for the first week with your starter
Session 2: Dough mixing and strengthening techniques
Understanding the stages of sourdough fermentation
(Hands on) Mix and take home a batch of dough
*bonus - mill fresh whole wheat flour from whole wheat berries to be used in your dough
Demonstration on shaping
Instructions will be provided on what to do with your dough when you get home
Session 3: Shaping and baking
A prepared dough will be provided for shaping during this session
(Hands on) Learn shaping techniques and the importance of a well-shaped dough
Take your shaped dough home to bake the following day
Instructions will be provided for your final step in baking at home
What you will gain from this course:
An in depth understanding of the sourdough process
Visual and hands on experience in each stage of the process
How to intuitively read for signs of readiness in your starter and dough
The confidence to continue baking with sourdough and experimenting with other recipes and techniques
Includes a WECK Tulip glass jar for your starter.
Location:
Workshop location is in Tustin, CA. Address will be emailed at least 24 hours prior to the event date.
